What we do
We list UK businesses by trade and by town, so that someone searching for a plumber in Manchester or a barber in Crawley can find one. Listing is free and stays free. Every listing gets a permanent profile page, category and location discovery, internal search, owner verification, basic analytics, and a way for customers to make an enquiry.
How listings are reviewed
Every submission is checked before it appears. When a business gives us its own website, we fetch that site and check it names the business, that the contact email can receive mail, and that the details are complete and read like a business rather than an advert. A submission that passes every one of those checks goes live straight away.
Everything else is read by a person: any submission the website does not confirm, every business without a website, and every request to take over an existing listing. We check that the business is real, that the details make sense, and that the category and location are right, and we aim to do that within two working days. Nothing is generated by scraping other websites.
If we get something wrong, tell us and we will fix it. A business owner can also claim their listing to manage it themselves, or ask for it to be removed entirely.
How we make money
Two ways, both optional and both clearly marked. A business can pay to be featured for a fixed period, and a business can buy an advertising placement. That is it. Paid placements are labelled as sponsored, and paid links carry the sponsored attribute search engines expect.
We are also the people behind InstaWebsite, which builds websites for small businesses. Some owners who list here decide they want help with their website, and we are glad when they do — but the directory has to be worth using on its own, so nothing here is held back to create a reason to buy.
What we will not do
- Sell a guaranteed position in Google, or in any AI assistant's answers. Nobody can.
- Sell links for search rankings. Paid exposure is advertising, and is marked as such.
- Publish invented reviews, ratings, or visitor numbers.
- Enrol you into marketing email because you submitted a listing.
- Cripple the free listing to push you towards a paid one.
