How we count visits without cookies
We record page views and outbound clicks so a listed business can see whether their profile is doing anything. To do that without following you around, we store a one-way hash of your IP address mixed with a salt that changes every day. The result cannot be reversed to an IP address and cannot connect your visit today to your visit tomorrow.
The trade-off is deliberate: it means our visitor numbers are approximate, and we say so rather than presenting them as exact unique visitors.
Other things we keep in your browser
Cookies are not the only way a site can store something on your device, so for completeness: when you arrive we keep one short label in session storagedescribing the kind of place you came from — for example "a search engine", "an AI assistant", or the name of the website that linked to us. It lets us tell a listed business which channels actually bring people to them.
It holds no identifier, it cannot connect you to another visit or another site, and your browser discards it the moment you close the tab. Our website statistics themselves are cookieless and store nothing on your device at all; if your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal we do not count the visit.
Controlling cookies
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking the two session cookies above will stop you signing in to manage a listing; nothing else on the site depends on them.
