Carpenters in the UK

Carpenters in the UK: common questions

How many carpenters are listed in the UK?

None yet. Promote Your Business has no carpenters listed in the UK. Listing is free, so if you run one you can be the first.

Do carpenters in the UK have to be registered or licensed?

There is no statutory register for this trade in the UK, so no licence exists to check.

How do I check a carpenter in the UK is qualified?

Look the company up at Companies House, ask for public liability insurance, get the price and the scope in writing before work starts, and pay a deposit by credit card where you can — purchases over £100 carry Section 75 protection.

Are the carpenters listed here vetted or reviewed?

Every submission is checked before it appears. If the business's own website names it and the details are complete, it is published automatically; anything else is read by a person, who checks that the business is real, that the details make sense, and that the category and location are right. Nothing is scraped from other sites. That is a check on the listing, not an endorsement of the work — Promote Your Business publishes no ratings, star scores or customer reviews, so you should still make your own checks before hiring.

Carpenters: guides worth reading first

• What a trader must give you in writing before work starts in your home

The information a trader is legally required to hand you before you are bound by a contract agreed in your home, and what it means if they never do.

• Paying a deposit to a trader: what to check first

No UK law caps a trade deposit. What protects you is what you check before paying — the written scope, the Companies House record, and how you send the money.

• Building regulations: who signs the work off, and what you get

Either the installer is in a competent person scheme and self-certifies, or you notify local authority building control before work starts. Getting this wrong surfaces when you sell.
