Can it be reached, read and trusted?
Technical SEO for a small business reduces to three questions. Can a search engine reach your pages? Can it read what they say? Does the site behave well enough that a visitor stays?
Almost everything sold as technical SEO beyond this is irrelevant to a ten-page site for a local trade.
Reachable
Every page should be linked from somewhere on the site — a page that exists only in your head or a sitemap is a page nobody will find. Your robots file should not be blocking anything you want indexed, and each page should have one address, not four variants with and without www and trailing slashes.
Unknown addresses must return a proper 404, not a page that says "not found" while reporting success. That distinction is invisible to humans and decisive for crawlers.
Readable and quick
Text should be text, not baked into images. Every page needs its own title and description. Images need alt text — the same alt text that makes a screen reader usable.
Speed matters mostly on mobile on a bad connection: compress images, avoid autoplaying video, and be ruthless about third-party scripts. Each chat widget, popup and tracker is a tax paid by every visitor.
HTTPS is not optional and it is free: browsers mark plain HTTP pages as not secure, which costs you enquiries from people who will never tell you why they left.
